Tanza(formerly known asSanta Cruz de Malabon) is a 1st
class (High Class)municipalityin theprovinceofCavite,Philippines.
According to the 2010 census, it has a population of 188,755 people in a land
area of 78.24 square kilometers.
Tanza has
been awarded "Seal of Good Housekeeping" by the Department of
Interior and Local Government in 2011. As of to date, Tanza has been named most
competitive municipality in economic dynamism by the Local Government
Competitive Index.
Founded in
1914, Tanza celebrated its centennial last February 28, 2014 with the theme
"Tanza, Sandaang Taon Na! Walang Katapusang Sigla at Pag-asa!"
(Tanza, One Hundred Years! Never-ending Zeal and Hope!)
Originally a part ofSan Francisco de
Malaboncalled
Estancia, Santa Cruz de Malabon became a separate town in 1770, and then again
as an independent municipality in 1910. The name was changed to Tanza by virtue
of Act No. 2390 by Cavite Representative Florentino Joya (1912-1916).
Tanza is the second Local
Government Unit in the province which banned the use of plastic bags and
polystyrene. This ordinance took effect on January 1, 2012.
Tanza is politically subdivided into 41 barangays.
